Wildfires and prescribed burning can play a pivotal role in forest health. Workshop participants will learn from N.C. Forest Service Forest Health Branch staff and guest speakers about how fire affects the health of a forest and the trees within it. Forest Health staff will also share current information on native and invasive forest pests that threaten the health of our forests in southeastern North Carolina. After breaking for lunch, workshop participants will be able to tour local forested areas with staff to investigate how fire and the absence of fire can influence forest structure and composition in the Coastal Plain.
