See how Pilot Mountain State Park manages forests in the park, and learn the techniques used to measure the density and board footage of trees. Also learn why they use certain Forest Management techniques. Meet with park staff at the Visitor Parking Area to join for a hike on the Mountain Trail. (1.5 hours)

Learn about the natural history of our State Tree, the Longleaf Pine, on a short hike to see each of its distinct growth stages. We’ll also view the scars that remain from the turpentine industry and explain how to distinguish Longleaf from our other native pines.
