Include information about prescribed fire in a forest management plan only if it conforms with the landowner’s objectives. If fire is not relevant to the property, it does not need to be addressed.
When fire is prescribed, include information on:
- The purpose of fire (to reduce wildfire risk, manage undesired vegetation, promote wildlife habitat, etc.).
- The stand(s) and acreage to be burned.
- The burn schedule (every three years, etc.).
- The requirement that the landowner or burner have a written burn plan and that they implement the burn plan according to the parameters outlined in the plan.
- A statement that the burner will follow all applicable rules, laws and regulations related to prescribed burning.
