Non-native Invasive Species
Non-native invasive plants and insects can be very problematic for forest landowners. From vines that take over disturbed areas, blanket forest edges and girdle trees, to insects that defoliate and infect trees with pathogens, these invaders not only destroy the natural forest, but they are difficult to control and can be expensive to get rid of.
ATFS Standard 5: Indicator 5.3.1:
Landowner should make practical efforts to promote forest health, including prevention, control, or response to disturbances such as wildland fire, invasive species and other pests, pathogens, or unwanted vegetation, to achieve specific management objectives.
